Iffa's KDrama Corner | Circle: Two Worlds Connected (2017)
I don't really watch kdrama, but
when I do, I either love it or leave it. I never finish a drama i don't
like. I judged it by watching the first 2-3 episodes and if it's not interesting
enough I go to asianwiki to find out how people think about the drama. I'll try to continue watching if the reviews are good and vice versa. I enjoy drama that
relatable and mostly daily-life-story-drama and don't really like heavy drama
(just because I'm too lazy to think hehe). Believe it or not, I don't even watch the famous Goblin and Descendant of The Sun because the
scifi genre and doesn't really relatable for me, consecutively. BUT there will
always be an exceptional, I guess? Recently I just watched Circle: Two Worlds
Connected which is sci-fi and this drama 'motivates' me to start writing this
corner. So here's my review. Relax, I won't give any spoiler.

This drama is honestly beyond my
expectation. Like I said, I don't really watch neither heavy drama nor sci-fi
genre drama. I started watching it early 2017 which is the release time of the
drama just because there's Lee Gi Kwang on the casts list. Yes I'm a Light and
Gikwang hard stan since 2011 hehe. I knew that this is not my kind of drama,
but that time I thought 'let's give it a try', then I watched episode 1
and.......yup I gave up. The story is super confusing and not realistic at all!
Science student, alien, future world, high technology, you name it. The plot is
just everywhere, I couldn't keep up. I even went to asianwiki to read the reviews. It was only air for around 6 episodes, many have same opinion about the drama. Confusing. Definitely not my kind of drama, I
thought. Though I already downloaded it until episode 6 on viu, I just decided
to not finish it. That was definitely my biggest regret
I never 'touch' those downloaded
episodes ever again since then. Until recently when my boarding house's WiFi
was down (well that's not new anyway the WiFi sucks) I got nothing to do, so I
checked my downloaded video on viu and the only drama available was Circle. So
I ended up watching Circle. I just skipped some parts of episode 1 as I already
watched before and continue to watch the next episodes. The confusions and
questions about who is who, what is what are explained on episode 2. It still doesn't make any sense but yeah at least I kinda knew the big picture. So, if you
haven't watched the drama yet I recommend to watch till episode 2 or 3, then decide
whether to continue or not. Don't be like me :p
Starting from episode 2, I can't
stop watching this drama, like seriously it's super addictive. At first, it's not because the storyline is amazing or something, but because I keep getting a lot confusion about the story. Starting from around episode 5 I got somewhat attached to the drama. I finished it in
just one day. Unlike the typical kdrama where you kinda already know the ending but
you just keep watching it to know how the ending happen, this drama is full i mean FULL of
twists and you can never guess the story nor the ending. An episode is divided
into two part which has different time setting; part I: Beta Project (2017) and
part II: Brave New World (2037). To give you the big picture, it's about twin
brother who lost and try to find each other. Each episode has a thing that
makes me "aaah so that's why" or "WTF! That's beyond my
imagination" or "omg omg I got goosebumps". I think that's why I
can't stop watching it because each episode always raising my level of
curiousity. It only has 12 episodes but I think that's a good thing as it gets
to the story quicker and doesn't drag on.
Does it have serious vibe? Why does
it sound so heavy and boring? Nope. Like other drama, it also makes me giggle,
sad, teary eyed, even cry a river (ok not literally a river but there are some
parts that sooooooooo sad). As I already said, the main focus is about twin brother, it almost has no romance. The brother love is very strong and beautiful though,
the actors deliver it well. You sure need to think to understand this drama. But it's
not that heavy, if you really watch it, you'll easily notice the hints. Thanks
to the writer-nim, it's really well written, almost flawless. Fyi, this drama
has 4 writers. I think that's a lot, isn't it? Quantity doesn't equal quality,
indeed. But I guess this drama has it all.
Lastly, the casts. I'm not very
familiar with the casts as I'm not really a fan of kdrama. I just know Yeo Jin
Goo, Lee Gi Kwang, and Jung In Sun. As expected from Yeo Jin Goo, but BIG
applause to all the casts! The casts are all amazing even the child actors.
They bring the characters and deliver the messages well.

The conclusion is this is a must
watch drama! Sad that it's underrated. If I had to rate, this drama is 9/10.
It's not perfect because I desperately need season 2!!!! Well I hope there will
be a season 2, I'm ready whenever it will be. There are still unanswered
questions. I really need to know what happen to Byul. And Woo Jin too!
